About Sam
Sam McPherson's artistic journey is intrinsically tied to the expansive beauty of nature and the exhilaration of adventure. Growing up in the embrace of an organic market vegetable and tea tree farm in the Northern Rivers of NSW, Sam cultivated a love for the natural world. This connection became the bedrock of his artistic expression, manifesting in the intricate details of flora and fauna, the vastness of landscapes, and the spirit of wild creatures depicted in his art.
Raised on the farm that had been in the family since 1861, Sam's formative years were intertwined with the rhythms of nature. The farm was more than a home; it was a living canvas—a playground of growth and regeneration. It was here that the family embarked on a mission to rehabilitate and preserve the land which they continue to this day (head to Save Koala's for more on this).
For Sam, adventure and photography are intertwined. Each serves as a reason to engage in the other. Driving a 4WD to remote corners, camping, exploring, or simply escaping for the day to capture the natural world embodies a sense of freedom. His work predominantly revolves around nature, encompassing intricate details and expansive landscapes, featuring wild birds, animals, and more. An avid enthusiast of outdoor adventure, he revels in action and adventure movies, doubles as a producer of electronic music, and holds a keen passion for 4WD and e-biking.
While Sam appreciates the technical aspects of photography and strives for excellence in his craft, the paramount objective is to let his photos be an escape. Nature, adventure, freedom, and independence are deeply cherished, and these values are shared through photography. With a struggle against anxiety in crowded spaces, nature becomes a sanctuary—a place of freedom and relief. Through Sam’s work, he endeavors to grant others the same sense of liberation and tranquility, allowing them to experience the outdoors and adorn their spaces with the beauty of nature captured in his images.
